How can I un-stretch a stretchy wide screen TV?
I bought a 14:9 aspect ratio television. It's quite good, except when I play wide screen movies, they continue to have the letterbox blocking out the top and the bottom. One would expect them to resize themselves to the wide screen television. I can press the "size" button on my remote control, but that merely stretches the image horizontally, leaving characters looking short and fat. There remains the letterbox. I paid a thousand dollars for this TV. Can anyone help me make Tia Carrere tall and beautiful again?
You need to set up your Dvd Player to output in widescreen. Go into the DVD player menu/setup and there should be an option to change to output from letterbox to widescreen.
Also, make sure you are playing widescreen rather than full screen DVD's. Many movies come in both formats.
Some DVD players and TV's have a zoom function to crop out the black bars, but it tends to pixelate the screen because you are enlarging the picture.
