How do I connect a broadband connection to my laptop(Windows Vista Business)?
I have a broadband connection at my home on my desktop(wind. XP). When I insert the cable into my laptop, it detects a connection,(local only) but when I try to connect to the internet, it doesn't connect(and therefore doesn't work)....Please help
First of all when you connect from your Laptop,open the command prompt ie MS Dos window and type ipconfig.
It will give you an IP address like 192.168.x.x or 169.254.x.x.
Then try to ping any website like yahoo.com or google.com
If you get answer but are still unable to go online try a different browser.
If you get request timed out it means either your not connected or a firewall is blocking you.
If you get message like ping request could not find host yahoo.com or google.com then ....try pinging 4.2.2.3....if you get reply from this IP address then its an DNS issue....you can assign static DNS as 4.2.2.2 in your LAN adapters IPv4 properpties.
Could you let me know what Connection you use and what is your IP address when you connect from your XP desktop.
you can find ip address on your XP comp as stated at ther beginning.
